The corner has been in business since the 1800s. A short history of the room we cook in, and the drugstore that came before us.
Long before it was a French dining room, this corner was a drugstore. The Snouder’s Building has stood on South Street since the 1800s, and Theodore Roosevelt is said to have used the telephone in it, Oyster Bay being what Oyster Bay is.
We kept what was worth keeping. The proportions of the room are the original ones, and the light in the late afternoon comes in the way it always has.
What we added was a marble bar, a great deal of brass, and a kitchen that cooks in French. It is a good building. It has held a lot of evenings.
